What this test measures

This essential STD screening panel tests for four of the most common sexually transmitted infections that can significantly impact health if left undetected. The blood sample screens for syphilis and HIV antibodies, while the urine sample detects chlamydia and gonorrhea through advanced molecular testing methods. These infections often have no symptoms, making regular testing crucial for sexually active individuals. Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis are bacterial infections that can be effectively treated with antibiotics when caught early, while HIV is a manageable condition with proper medical care. The panel uses highly sensitive testing methods that can detect infections within their respective window periods, providing reliable results for informed health decisions.

What's included

Chlamydia
Gonorrhea
Syphilis
HIV 1 & 2

Who should consider this test

You might consider this test if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Sexually active individuals under 25, as medical experts recommend annual screening for this age group due to higher infection rates
  • People with new sexual partners, multiple partners, or partners who may have other sexual relationships
  • Anyone who has had unprotected sex or inconsistent condom use with partners of unknown STI status
  • Individuals entering new relationships who want comprehensive baseline testing for peace of mind
  • People experiencing symptoms such as unusual discharge, burning during urination, or genital discomfort
  • Those who want routine health maintenance screening or have potential exposure concerns

What to expect

Preparation

No fasting is required for this test. Avoid urinating for at least 1 hour before your appointment to ensure adequate urine concentration for accurate results. If taking biotin supplements, stop consumption at least 72 hours before testing as it may interfere with blood test results.

Sample Type

A healthcare professional will draw a small blood sample from your arm using a thin needle, which takes just a few minutes. You'll also provide a urine sample by collecting the first part of your urine stream in a sterile cup.

Collection

Simply walk into any Quest Diagnostics location with your lab order. Bring a valid photo ID and your confirmation number. The entire process typically takes 15-20 minutes, and no appointment is necessary at most locations.

Turnaround

Results are typically available within 1-3 business days and will be delivered securely through your online portal

Understanding your results

Results will show 'Detected' or 'Not Detected' for each infection tested, with additional confirmatory testing performed automatically if initial results are reactive. For HIV and syphilis, blood tests look for specific antibodies your body produces in response to infection. Chlamydia and gonorrhea results come from highly sensitive molecular tests that detect bacterial DNA with over 95% accuracy. Your lab report will include specific reference ranges and interpretive information relevant to the testing methodology used.

PopulationReference RangeNotes
ChlamydiaNot DetectedMolecular testing detects bacterial DNA; any detection indicates active infection
GonorrheaNot DetectedMolecular testing detects bacterial DNA; any detection indicates active infection
SyphilisNon-ReactiveBlood test detects antibodies; reactive results require confirmatory testing
HIV 1 & 2Non-ReactiveBlood test detects antibodies and antigens; reactive results require confirmatory testing

Reference ranges shown are general guidelines. Your lab report will include the specific reference range used by the laboratory that processed your sample, which is the authoritative range for interpreting your results.

What does a “Low” result mean?

'Not Detected' or 'Non-Reactive' results indicate no evidence of current infection was found. However, it's important to remember that different infections have different window periods, and very recent exposures may not yet be detectable.

What does a “High” result mean?

Positive or 'Detected' results indicate the presence of an active infection that requires medical attention and treatment. Bacterial infections like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis are typically treated effectively with antibiotics. HIV is a manageable condition with proper medical care and antiretroviral therapy.

Privacy & confidentiality

Your test results are delivered confidentially through a secure online portal and are never shared with employers, insurance companies, or anyone else without your explicit consent. Many testing facilities provide completely confidential services, and your privacy is protected under federal healthcare privacy laws throughout the entire testing process.
